MINUTES OF THE BIENNIAL GENERAL MEETING

18 JANUARY 2002

1.      The meeting commenced at 8:35 am. Those delegates present recorded their names in the Attendance Register.

2.      Apologies - none

3.      Minutes:  The minutes of the Eleventh Biennial General Meeting, 14 January 2000, held at The Tradewinds Hotel Fremantle were read and accepted:

4.      Business Arising:     Philip Roberts explained the process and protocol of accessing and updating information on the new naae website. Look for the email link to Sue Piggott at the bottom of webpage for help with uploading new information. Email to all executives was found to be most effective, through the naae@meningieas.sa.edu.au executive mailing list.

Lindsay McNeill noted that Philip Roberts should be congratulated for his organisation of the naae website and executive mailing list.

5.      Resolution of item 9. This was addressed through a teleconference on 29th March 20001, and passed by a majority.

' At the discretion of the NAAE Executive, States with a small membership base (less than 25) could receive up to one half of one discount airfare to assist a delegate attend the National Biennial Conference'

6.      President's Report: The President, Philip Roberts read his report, (see page 3).   Moved: S Ryan ACT      Seconded: A Jokantas Vic       All in favour

7.      Treasurer's Report: The Treasurer, A Cosby spoke briefly to his report. Copies of this report were made available at the conclusion of BGM. His detailed audited report is found on pages 5 and 6 of these minutes.  In summary, there is a positive bank balance of almost $7,500 and an annual income around $2,000 which is derived mainly from the $5 membership fee.

8.      Election of Office Bearers: The President, P. Roberts declared all positions vacant. A temporary chairman was nominated and conducted the election of office bearers.  As there was just the one nomination for each of the positions, no ballots were required.     The Executive for the next two years is:

NT and ACT have yet to determine their representatives.

9.      Next Conference: Lindsay McNeill moved that:

"the 2004 biennial conference be held in South Australia". Motion carried.

10.  Review of Current Constitution.

P. Roberts asked that the name stated on 1.1 of the constitution should read as NAAE rather than NATA and should be amended.

11.  Incorporation

The processes involved in registration of the association as an incorporated body was outlined by P. Roberts and that this was essential to set up a website URL.

Lindsay McNeill moved a motion:  Seconded: S. Grimmet.

" that this meeting endorse the 'incorporation' of the association as the 'National Association of Agricultural Educators'."                                   Motion carried.

It was suggested by N. Grant that the NAAE executive review the NAAE constitution prior to the next BGM within the allotted timeframe, and flag any changes that might be voted on prior to 2004 BGM, and notify rank and file members.

12.  Issues

A discussion as to the most prudent way in which to attract a higher rate of return for NAAE funds ensued. It was moved by M. Gower and seconded by Lindsay McNeill;

" that the NAAE executive investigate the possibility of investing a proportion of the balance of funds held by NAAE so that it would attract a higher rate of return than is currently being obtained".              Motion carried.
